That the problem of irresponsible mining has become an existential threat to Ghana is no longer in doubt. While the rest of the world deals with climate change, the threat of Ghana’s local, man-made nightmare requires a ,more urgent action on the part of Government, bureaucrats, traditional authorities and citizens.
As an advocacy group made up of Ghanaian nationals home and abroad, the Galamsey Action Group, now Ghana Environmental Advocacy Group (GEAG), presented a list of solutions to the problem of Irresponsible mining in Ghana to the Government of Ghana and about forty others in June 2021.
The proposal, with timelines, cover three main areas, namely
Amend and Enforce laws
Enable alternative livelihoods and Equity
Restructure and Regularize
The document also contains timelines to help the government and the implementation agencies .
