Let Us Criminalise Galamsey

Ghana is blessed with abundant natural resources - green vegetation, shimmering rivers and water bodies, a beautiful shoreline, and generous amounts of mineral and oil deposits. One would expect that these resources would be exploited in a sustainable manner to fuel the country’s growth into a more prosperous future, while preserving the quality of life of her people.

Unfortunately, in the past few years, illegal and irresponsible mining practices and illegal mining (aka Galamsey), made possible by lackluster supervision and lax regulatory regimes, coupled with institutionalized corruption, have left unspeakable devastation in most of the country.
