World Environment Day 2025

Happy World Environment Day, Ghana!

Today, we celebrate our shared responsibility to protect and nurture the environment we call home. From the lush rainforests of the Western Region to the vibrant savannahs of the North, Ghana’s natural beauty is a gift that sustains us all.
This year’s theme—“Our Land, Our Future”—reminds us that environmental health is the foundation for human health, economic prosperity, and social well-being. Let’s honor this day by committing to:
✅ Reducing plastic waste and promoting recycling.
✅ Supporting local farmers and sustainable agriculture.
✅ Protecting our forests, rivers, and wildlife.
✅ Educating our communities about climate change and environmental stewardship.

For Ghana Environmental Advocacy Group and the Coalition of Concerned Nzema People, the day was billed as a Media Event to celebrate the rich, ecologically diverse and historically significant Domunli lagoon that lines the coast of a portion of the Jomoro Municipality in Western Nzema, collectively known as the Domunli Enclave.

Unfortunately, the Chief and Elders of Bonyere were afraid that this event would scare away investors and hence jeopardize the government’s proposed Petroleum Hub project in the area. In spite of this, we are proud of the attention this has drawn to this critical natural resource, and hope that whatever happens with the project, the Domunli will continue to be preserved for posterity.
Together, we can create a greener, healthier Ghana for ourselves and future generations. 💚🌱
